    This article describes the Macintosh IIvx (Performa 600) control chips.


DISCUSSION


    VASP
    ----
    The VASP controls all timing, video generation, memory mapping, sound,
    and clock generation. VASP is a modification of the V8 ASIC used in the
    Macintosh LC and Macintosh LC II.

    Ariel
    -----
    Ariel is the 256x24 bit color look-up table (CLUT) for Macintosh IIvx.

    CoMBo Chip (85C80)
    ------------------
    The CoMBo chip provides identical serial and SCSI interface control for
    Macintosh IIvx. Macintosh IIvx provides on-board SCSI termination when
    no external SCSI device is connected to the DB-25 connector.

    Egret (68HC05)
    --------------
    The Egret chip provides keyboard scanning, real-time clock, ADB interface,
    parameter RAM storage, power on reset, and power supply control.
