TOPIC

    At Ease 2.0 software is an extension to Macintosh System 7 that gives everyone who uses a Macintosh the resources they need without disrupting the files or applications of other users.

DISCUSSION

    Features
    --------
    After you install At Ease 2.0, you can use the setup program to designate, for each user, which applications they can and can't access. You can also grant or deny permission for users to delete and copy files, make folders, and rename items. This gives each user privacy and prevents novice users from accidentally deleting files or applications or damaging the hard disk.

    You can assign an individual password for each user. When the user enters the password, At Ease 2.0 displays all of the authorized applications as large buttons. A single click on these buttons launches the application or opens a document.

    You can maintain a more orderly hard disk with At Ease 2.0. It stores all new files in a single document folder. You can also block saving files on the hard disk and require saving files on a floppy disk.

    Components
    ----------
    At Ease creates many of these files and folders at run time:

    * Documents
    - At Ease - provides the code for running the At Ease desktop, and is located at the root level of the System Folder.
    - Users - stores user information, and is located in the At Ease Users folder.
    - User Profile - stores profile information for a particular user. It's in the At Ease Users folder.

    * Extensions
    - At Ease Startup - provides the boot process and network code for At Ease. It prevents disabling At Ease (holding down the Shift key at start up).
    - Speech Manager - allows text-to-speech on the file names as the cursor passes over an icon. The default setting for this function is off.

    * Applications
    - At Ease Setup - provides owners with the ability to customize At Ease folders for each user.
    - Mouse Practice - instructs a novice Macintosh user to navigate using a mouse to click and drag.

    * Folders
    - At Ease Items - contains internal information, such as At Ease folders and the Preference file. If information is kept on an AppleShare server, this folder is created on the root of the server volume.
    - At Ease Movies - contains optional QuickTime movies for the At Ease buttons, and is in the At Ease Items folder. There's no provision for easily adding movies in this version of At Ease.
    - At Ease Receive - is in the At Ease Items folder, and may contain a temporary holding folder called At Ease Temp, used during remote administration.
    - At Ease Setups - is in the At Ease Items folder, and contains the Setups document and folders assigned to each setup.
    - At Ease Sounds - contains the sounds played when items are selected.
    - At Ease Users - is in the At Ease Items folder and contains At Ease folders.
    - Documents - located at the root of the At Ease Disk volume, it contains all the documents shown in the user's At Ease panels; kept in folders by user.
    - Mouse Practice - contains the Mouse Practice application (Macromind Player 3.0) and supporting movie and sound clips.
