    I have a DOS Compatibility Card and when I try using the MS-DOS Command SUBST on a shared drive, I get an error. The error message reads "Cannot SUBST a network drive". Is this normal?

    Yes, this is normal. There are many things that MS-DOS does not let you do with a networked drive, including using the SUBST command. This is how MS-DOS works.
