Mac OS X 10.0: Access Not Provided in Classic for Certain Hardware-Oriented Applications

Some applications that require special hardware access, such as the AppleCD Audio Player and the Apple DVD Player, do not work in Classic.
Symptom

Applications that require direct hardware access may not work in the Classic environment. An alert box may appear when you open the application that suggests you need to add extensions to the System Folder.


Solution

You should update to the latest version of Mac OS X for best compatibility. Mac OS X 10.1 and later include DVD playback on compatible computers.

Some applications that require special hardware access do not work in the Classic environment of Mac OS X 10.0.

In order to perform the desired function, the appropriate Mac OS X application must be used. For example, use iTunes to listen to an audio CD.

Mac OS X 10.0 does not have a DVD player application. To watch a movie from a DVD-Video disc, restart the computer from Mac OS 9.x and use the Apple DVD Player application. For related information, please see technical documents:
