Each computer that you plan to start up from your NetBoot Mac OS X Server needs an IP address to identify it as a unique device on the network. With NetBoot over DHCP, a second generation of NetBoot, client computers can obtain their IP addresses using DHCP. Only later models of NetBoot-capable Macintosh computers can take advantage of this feature. To see which computers are capable of NetBoot over DHCP, please see technical document 106430, "
Mac OS X Server 10.0: System Requirements and Recommended AppleShare Client Software".
Mac OS X Server is configured by default to provide DHCP server services when enabling NetBoot services. You should only have one DHCP server per network subnet.
To disable DHCP services on Mac OS X Server and use another existing DHCP server on your network, follow these steps:
1. Log in to Server Admin if you are using Mac OS X Server 10.1.5 or earlier. Log in to Server Settings if you are using Mac OS X Server 10.2 or later.
2. Click the Network tab.
3. Click the DHCP/NetBoot icon and choose Configure DHCP.
4. Click the Subnets tab.
5. Double click the default subnet, listed under the Name column.
6. Click the check box to deselect Enable DHCP.
7. Click button and close both windows.
8. Click the DHCP/NetBoot icon and choose Start DHCP Service.
