Mac OS 9: Pointer Jumps When Copying Files to or From a Zip Disk

Symptom

When copying files to or from a Zip drive on a computer with a USB keyboard and mouse, pointer movement is jumpy or erratic. The behavior is most apparent when the Finder Copy window is the active window.

Solution

• Use a USB Zip drive.

• Upgrade to Mac OS X to resolve this issue.

The Zip driver for Mac OS 9 causes the pointer location to be updated less frequently on the screen. However, there is no slowdown of operation.

You can minimize the behavior during file copies to and from the Zip drive by clicking another window to make it active, instead of the Finder Copy window.
