Apple Pro Keyboard (Italian): Some Special Characters Missing When Using "Italian - Pro" Keyboard Layout

It is not possible to produce some characters with diacritics (such as Á, È, Í, Ô, Ù, ÿ, and ñ) when using the "Italian - Pro" keyboard layout with Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X.
Symptom

When using Italian Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X, there are two keyboard layouts to choose from, "Italian - Pro" and "Italian".

When you are using the Italian layout, depressing the Option key or Option-Shift key combination will produce some characters with diacritics (Figure 1).

However, when you use the Italian - Pro layout, some characters with diacritics do not appear (Figure 2).

Solution

As a workaround, see technical document 25333: "Apple Pro Keyboard (Italian): How to produce Special Characters"

This document lists the keystrokes needed to produce various special characters with the Italian versions of the Apple keyboard and the Apple Pro Keyboard, when using the Italian layout of Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X.

This document will be updated as more information becomes available.
