Symptom

Mac OS X 10.1 installation does not complete, and this message appears:

Solution

First, review technical document 106693, "Mac OS X: Troubleshooting Installation From CD-ROM".

Follow these steps if the information in document 106693 does not resolve the issue:

Note: Your hard disk should not be set to ATA ID 1 (slave mode) if it is the only ATA device on the bus. See technical document 106728, "Mac OS X: Cannot Install From ATA ID 1 (Slave) Disc Drive".

Advanced step: If installation still does not complete, shut down your computer and temporarily disconnect additional ATA devices, such as an internal (ATA) Zip drive, if present. Disconnect the device by unplugging the ATA data cable. Remember that your hard disk should not be set to ATA ID 1 (slave mode) when it is the only device on the ATA bus.
