Mac OS X Server 10.2.8 or Earlier: Cannot Create File or Folder Names Longer Than 31 Characters on Some Volumes

This document describes how to work around a situation in which you cannot remotely create a file or folder with a name longer than 31 characters. This occurs when connected via Apple File Protocol (AFP), of which various examples are named File Sharing, Personal File Sharing, and Apple File Service.
