Mac OS X 10.2 or Later: Firewall Blocks Internet Sharing

If you don't open an extra port, Firewall will block the use of Internet Sharing.
Symptom

A client of your shared Internet connection can get an IP address from your computer, but it cannot actually access the Internet.


Solution

These steps open port 443, which should resolve the issue.
  1. Turn on Personal Web Sharing in the Sharing preference pane.
  2. Click the Firewall tab.
  3. Click the New button.
  4. From the Port Name pop-up menu, choose Other.
  5. In the Port Number field, type: 443
  6. In the description field, type: https

  7. Click OK.
  8. Turn off Firewall and Internet Sharing.
  9. Turn on Firewall and Internet Sharing.
