Mac OS X: Restoring software on a partitioned hard drive

Partitioning a hard drive into smaller volumes can be useful in some cases. However, if your Mac came with Mac OS X and iLife '04 Software Restore discs, be aware that you can only restore the software onto partitions that are larger than 11 GB.
If you try to restore the software on a smaller partition, you'll see this message:

Disk Utility's First Aid feature may also find "problems" on the partition you restored the software to.

To restore the software, partition the drive with at least one volume that is 11 GB or larger.

Warning: Partitioning a disk erases all information on the entire disk.
