Mac OS X 10.4.3: Cannot use Unicode Hex Input keyboard layout

If you enable the Unicode Hex Input keyboard layout in the International pane of System Preferences and then choose it from the input menu, the U.S. keyboard layout will be used instead. This can happen in Mac OS X 10.4.3.

To resolve this issue, do this:

1. From the Apple manu, choose System Preferences.
2. Click International to display the pane.
3. Click the Input Menu tab.
4. Deselect (uncheck) all selected checkboxes for keyboard layouts, palettes, and input methods.
5. Reselect the checkboxes for keyboard layouts, palettes, and input methods that you wish to make available, including Unicode Hex Input.
