Aperture: "Couldn‘t Create" Error when Importing Images

If you try to import files for which you don't have adequate permissions, Aperture will give you this message:

Import Error

An error (Couldn't create) occurred while attempting to import:

/Users/user_name/path_to_file

This file was not imported.

The situation is not common, but it could happen when importing from a server on which you have permissions for the enclosing folder but not the files themselves, for example.

1. In the Finder, select the affected files using Shift-click or Command-click as needed.
2. Press Option-Command-I to get the Multiple Item Info window.
3. Click the disclosure triangle next to Ownership & Permissions.
4. If necessary, click the lock button to authenticate. If you don't have owner or administrator privileges for the enclosing folder, you will need the assistance of someone who does.
5. Change the permissions of the files so that you have read or read/write permissions.
