Mac OS X 10.4.8: Account password can‘t be changed on some Intel-based Macs

Issue or symptom

After updating to Mac OS X 10.4.8 on some Intel-based Macs, a non-administrator user might not be able to change their password.

Solution

Download and install the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update (Intel).
