Boot Camp Beta 1.2: Mac may not transition from Standby to Hibernate in Windows XP

Issue or symptom

Two-button mice, such as the Apple Mighty Mouse, may prevent Microsoft Windows XP hibernation on an Intel-based Mac, even though hibernation is enabled in the Power Options Control Panel.

Solution

If you have a multi-button mouse device connected to your Mac, and hibernation in Windows XP does not work as expected, disable the power management setting "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby".

Follow these steps while booted in (started from) Windows XP with the multi-button mouse connected to the computer:

  1. Select Start > Control Panel.
  2. Click the Performance and Maintenance category.
  3. Select the System Control Panel icon.
  4. Click the Hardware tab in the System Properties dialog box.
  5. Click the Device Manager button.
  6. Expand "Mouse and other pointing devices".
  7. Double click HID-compliant mouse.
  8. Click the Power Management tab in the HID-compliant mouse Properties window.
  9. Deselect "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby".
  10. Click OK.
