Mac mini (Mid 2007): displays black screen during DVD restore

Issue or symptom

If your Mac mini (Mid 2007) goes into sleep mode after ejecting DVD1 during a restore from the DVDs that shipped with the computer, it may quit unexpectedly then display a black screen.

Solution

To work around this issue, perform the following steps:

  1. Remove the DVD that was ejected.
  2. Press and hold the power button on the back of the computer until the power LED on the front of the computer turns off. Once the LED is off, release the power button.
  3. Press the power button on the back on the computer to turn the Mac mini on again. The Mac mini should restart and prompt you for DVD2.
  4. Insert DVD2 to proceed with the restore.
