Mac OS X 10.4: Some Help content displays in English when primary language set to Japanese or Spanish

Issue or symptom

In some cases, if the primary Mac OS X 10.4 language is set to Japanese or Spanish, some applications' Help content will appear in English instead of their specified language.

Solution

Download and install the Mac OS X 10.4.11 Update, or later.

If the issue persists after installing Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later

  1. If the application's Help content continues to be displayed in English, close the affected application.
  2. Click the Finder icon in the Dock, then choose Home from the Go menu.
  3. Open the Library folder.
  4. Open the Caches folder.
  5. Locate the file named "com.apple.helpui folder" and move it to the Trash.
  6. Close the Caches folder.
  7. Back in the Library folder, open the Preferences folder.
  8. Locate the file named "com.apple.helpviewer.plist" and move it to the Trash.
  9. Locate the file named "com.apple.help.plist" and move it to the Trash.
  10. Open the affected application again.
