Mac OS X 10.5: Large file downloads timeout and need to be restarted

Issue or symptom

When using Mac OS X 10.5 to download large files, a timeout may occur after downloading a portion of the file. When restarting the download, the cycle may repeat. After several download restarts, the file may be fully downloaded.

This can happen with earlier Juniper NetScreen Internet router devices.

Solution

Upgrade to a later (newer) third-party router, or use an AirPort base station.
