iBook, PowerBook (FireWire): How to Delete the Memory Contents File

This document explains how to delete the Memory Contents file on a computer that has had the Preserve memory contents on sleep option enabled in the Energy Saver control panel.
Note: For compatibility reasons, the Preserve Memory Contents on Sleep feature has been removed in Mac OS 9 versions 9.0.4 and later. You may still see the option in the Energy Saver control panel but it will be dimmed.

The Memory Contents file is created by the Preserve memory contents on sleep option in the Energy Saver control panel. It can be rather large. (The size of the file depends on the amount of memory installed in a computer.)

After installing the Sleep Memory Extension or Mac OS 9.0.4, the Preserve memory contents on sleep checkbox in the Energy Saver control panel is dimmed and unavailable. However, the Memory Contents file created by this feature is not deleted. It is safe to delete this file and reclaim the hard disk space it takes up.

The Sleep Memory Extension, and Mac OS 9.0.4 Update are available from Apple Software Downloads (http://www.apple.com/swupdates/).
