To sleep iPod, press and hold the Play/Pause button until the iPod screen turns off. Press any button to turn iPod on. If you have an iPod shuffle, slide the switch on the back to the Off position.
To keep iPod from accidentally waking from sleep, slide the Hold switch toward the headphones port. For more information on the Hold switch see "iPod: About the Hold Switch."
