Keynote 1.0: "Not enough VRAM" Alert If Third-Party ATI Drivers Are Installed

When using Keynote 1.0 on Mac OS X 10.2.3, if you have installed a retail ATI video card, and then installed ATI driver software, an alert will appear when you try to play a slideshow.
Symptom

When you try to play a slideshow, an alert with the message "Not enough VRAM" appears.

Solution

Mac OS X 10.2.3 and later include driver software that works with these cards. If you install the ATI drivers, you may need to do an Archive & Install of Mac OS X, preserving user settings, to return to a configuration that works with Keynote 1.0. For more information see technical document 107120, "Mac OS X 10.2: About the Archive and Install Feature".
