PowerBook G4, PowerBook G4 (17-inch,) MacBook Pro: How to Remove or Install the Battery
This document explains how to remove or install a PowerBook G4, PowerBook G4 (Gigabit Ethernet), PowerBook G4 (DVI), or PowerBook G4 (1 GHz/867 MHz) computer's battery.

Notes:
- MacBook Pro, PowerBook G4 (17-inch), and PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.33GHz) computers have a different battery location.
- These instructions do not apply to PowerBook G4 (12-inch) computers. For information on removing or installing a PowerBook G4 (12-inch) battery, see PowerBook G4 (12-inch): How to Replace the Battery.

To remove the battery
- Shut down the computer.
- Turn the computer over.

Locate the battery release latch(es).

To insert the battery
PowerBook G4 through PowerBook G4 (1 GHz/867 MHz)
- Insert the battery into the battery bay at an angle with the battery's LED side first.
- Firmly press down on the battery until the battery's latch sets.
MacBook Pro, PowerBook G4 (17-inch) and PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.33GHz)
- Insert the battery into the battery bay at an angle with the battery's LED side last, as seen in Figure 3.
- Firmly press down on the battery until the battery's latch sets.
To change the battery while the computer is asleep
If your battery runs low while you are working, you can put your computer to sleep and replace the battery with a charged one. The internal backup battery provides enough power to maintain the contents of memory (RAM) for about one minute. Note: This will not work if you are using Mac OS X 10.0.
