Speech Recognition does not work on some computers with Mac OS X 10.1.

Symptom
Speech Recognition does not work on some computers when using the built-in microphone and Mac OS X 10.1. Even though Speech Recognition can be turned on in the Speech preferences pane, speakable items do not work.
Solution
Update to Mac OS X 10.1.2 or later. Use the Software Update pane of System preferences, or download the update from Apple Software Downloads (http://www.apple.com/swupdates/).
