Answer: Yes, the Quadra 900, 950, 660AV, 840AV, Power Mac 6100, 7100, and 8100 Macintosh models all have SerialDMA capabilities which allow them much greater throughput than previous (non-DMA) based 680x0 Macintosh models.
Question: Is the Power Macintosh GeoPort fast enough to keep up with the 28.8 Kbps V.34 class of modem?
Answer: The Apple Telecom 3.x software provides V.34 capabilities to the GeoPort Telecom Adapter on a Power Macintosh computer. Due to limitations in bandwidth of the DSP processor in the Quadra 660AV and 840AV, V.34 is not available on these computers.
Note: V.34 is a set of protocols, and the protocol does not guarantee a 28.8 Kbps connection. You can improve operation of the Apple Telecom software by having a level-2 cache card installed and virtual memory turned off.
