PowerBook: Dual-Scan Display Explained

With regards to the PowerBook display, what does "dual-scan" mean?
A dual-scan display is a passive matrix display that delivers almost twice the refresh rate of a standard passive-matrix display.

Instead of scanning all the lines of the screen from top to bottom, a dual-scan display divides the screen in two and scans the top half and bottom half simultaneously. This effectively doubles the screen's performance, and it makes colors appear brighter.
