It is recommended that the Disk Cache be set to 32K per megabyte (MB) installed of physical memory. For an 8 MB Macintosh, the proper Disk Cache setting would be 256K.
In System 7.5, 7.5.1, and 7.5.2, the Memory control panel had an anomaly where, if you click the "Default" button, it will always set the Disk Cache setting to 96K no matter how much memory you have installed. However, this has been fixed in System 7.5.3, and the default is now equal to 32K per MB installed. You can updgrade to System 7.5.3 using System 7.5 Update 2.0, which is available on the online services.
