Apple LaserWriter printers determine their TCP MSS by the IP address of sender, the printer's IP address, and the printer's subnet mask.
Here is a chart of the behavior:
Model | Local | Non-Local |
LaserWriter 8500 | 1460 | 536 |
LaserWriter 12/640 PS | 1460 | 536 |
LaserWriter 16/600 PS | 1460 | 536 |
Color LaserWriter 12/600 PS | 1460 | 1460 |
Color LaserWriter 12/660 PS | 1460 | 1460 |
Table Notes
1. Local = host and printer are on same network and subnet.
2. Non-Local = host and printer are on different networks or subnets. |
These are the MSS values sent from the printer to the host. The actual MSS used in a particular print job may vary depending on the network topology and the behavior of the host.
