Mac OS: Sound Delays

System beeps seem to be delayed by a second from when they're supposed to play. This seemed to happen after I installed a game demo. I have turned off virtual memory.
Sounds can be distorted or delayed if the sound ouput quality in the Monitors & Sound control panel is set to a different rate than the sounds being played were recorded at. Most system beeps were recorded at 44.1kHz.

Open the Monitors & Sound control panel and click on the Sound panel. Make sure the Sound Output Quality option is set to 44.100kHz.
