The message about improper shutdown is activated by an invisible file named Shutdown Check. The file may be corrupt, causing the message to appear each time you start up the computer. The Shutdown Check file regenerates if removed from the hard disk, similar to a preference file. Try this to eliminate the errant message:
1. Open Stickies.
2. Type "shutdown check" on a note.
3. Close the note window. The "Save As..." dialog box will appear.
4. Save the note to the root level of the hard disk. A message indicating an existing "shutdown check" file will appear.
5. Click on "Replace".
6. Open the hard disk.
7. Locate the Stickie note "shutdown check".
8. Put it in the trash.
9. Restart.
10. Empty the trash.
