AppleShare: Virus Can Attack Only User-Write-Accessible Volume

TOPIC -----------------------------------------

Here are two questions about AppleShare volumes and viral infections.

DISCUSSION ------------------------------------

Q) If I partition a server hard disk into a read-only volume and a read-write
volume, is it possible for the read-only volume to become infected if the
read-write volume becomes infected?

A) No, a virus can attack only folders and files to which the user of the
infected program has write access privileges.

Q) If I did some administrative work on the read-only volume -- that is,
launched applications that made it write-able under the administrator
account -- could a virus infect the volume that was once write-protected?

A) Yes, since the Administrator has write access privileges, so would the
virus.
