AppleWorks 6: How to Add and Format a Chart Legend

This article explains how to add and format a chart legend.
A chart legend lists each data series in the chart along with a sample of the color and pattern used for that series.

Note: You must use the chart legend to change the color, pattern, or other attributes of the data plotted in the chart. If you don't want a legend in your final chart, hide it.

To add or change a chart legend:
Select the chart, then choose Chart Options from the Edit menu and click Labels.

Tip: You can also double-click the chart legend, if it has one.

Make sure the Legend checkbox is selected.

Select the options you want.
Click a circle to position the legend in relation to the chart.

For area, stacked area, line, X-Y line, scatter, and X-Y scatter charts, you can display data points with a symbol. To use the symbol in the legend, select Use Symbol.

To hide the legend:

Double-click the chart legend and deselect the Legend checkbox.
