Virex: Menu Options

This article discusses what the menu options are for Virex 7.x.
The Virex 7.x menu options differ somewhat from the options that you have in the application itself. Some options are available from both locations.

Options that have keyboard shortcut commands associated with them show the Command key next to them. Keyboard shortcuts are a combination of key strokes that help you quickly perform actions without having to use your mouse. Where the SHIFT key is need as part of a keyboard shortcut, you will see an up arrow.

The menu bar offers the following options:

About Virex gives version and copyright information for Virex 7.x

Preferences opens the Preferences dialog

Services presents further submenus that allow you to, for example, open the TextEdit application, grab screenshots and mail text to others.

Hide Virex Command-H makes Virex invisible on the screen. To open it again, click Show All.

Hide Others makes all running program windows invisible apart from Virex.

Show All is the antidote to the two Hide options.

Quit Virex Command-Q exits the Virex program and removes the Virex icon from the Dock.

The File menu

Save Results Command-S allows you to save the information in the Results area as a RTFD document in a location of your choice.

Page Setup Command-P lets you change the default page layout for any scan results that you print.

Print up arrow Command-P sends the information displayed in the Results area to the printer.

The Edit menu

Copy makes a copy of any text that is selected from the Results area and places it on the clipboard.

Select All highlights the information displayed in the Results area.

Clear Results Command-L removes the scan results displayed in the Results area and displays them with information that relates to the last set of DATs that you installed. Use the Clear option to refresh the DAT information after you update the DATs.

The View menu

Hide/Show Toolbar hides or shows the buttons on the Virex toolbar.

Customize Toolbar... lets you add, remove or arrange Virex icons in the toolbar then return to the default set as you choose. In addition, you can choose to display icons, text or both on the toolbar.

The Window menu

Minimize Command-M removes the Virex window from the desktop. Virex is still open and running and is represented by an icon on the Dock. Click the icon to expand Virex again.

Bring All to Front brings all the open Virex windows to the front of all other open windows.

The Help menu

Virex Help Command-? opens this Help utility.

Virus Information Center connects you to the McAfee Virus Information Library.

Customize Menu takes you to the International System Preferences pane.
