The amount of memory required will depend on the screen size and number of colors set. The larger the screen and the more colors set in the Control Panel, the more memory you will need to open a new, untitled document.
Claris CAD sets aside a portion of the RAM for screen redraw. It then draws the image to this area and opens it up on the screen. That allows it to be faster, but requires it to be more memory intensive.

Under Finder, Claris CAD, like any other Macintosh package, will use all of the available memory.
Under MultiFinder or Systems 7 or later, Claris CAD 1.0 has a preset allocation of 1350 K of memory, and 2.0 has a preset allocation of 1800k.
This is the amount of memory automatically set aside for Claris CAD to use. If you are getting out of memory messages and you have enough RAM, this number can be increased.
To do so, quit out of Claris CAD. Select the Claris CAD icon, by clicking it, then select Get Info from the File menu. Enter a value greater than 2000 into the "Application Memory Size". Close window to accept the value. When the application is restarted, it will then use the higher amount of RAM assigned to it. If you still get out of memory messages, increase the memory allocation in 100k increments until you no longer get the message.
