MacPlot: Recommended Cables

A large number of plotting anomalies can be traced to incorrect cabling between your Macintosh and plotter. It is not uncommon for carefully wired custom cables that work well with other plotting applications to exhibit problems with MacPlot.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
Here is a listing of several cables Claris knows to work correctly with the MacPlot software:

Apple Computer: the Mac to IW I cable, with DB9 to DIN8 adaptor, Service Part #'s 590-0169 & 699-0430. (This is two cables: a Mac II-to-DB9 adapter, and a Mac Plus-to-ImageWriter 1 cable)

Hewlett-Packard: 17302A (an all-in-one cable, 25 pin to DIN8). This is the best solution to hook up a plotter with a 25-pin connector to any Mac with a DIN8 serial port (i.e., any model Mac later than a Mac Plus).

Hewlett-Packard: 92219M (same as ImageWriter I cable) and any DB9 to DIN8 adaptor.

Roland: XY-2606.

Sun Remarketing (800-821-3221): DB25-DN8 cable is $24, part number 330-013 (direct connect between plotter and Macintosh). DB25-DB9 cable is $24, part number 330-011. DB9-DN8 adapter is $10, part number 330-003.

Claris cannot guarantee that other cables, especially custom cables, will work with MacPlot.
