There is no precise formula for calculating the amount of memory required for a given plot. However, the following steps make the best use of the memory you have, and eliminate common causes of this message:
1. Turn off the RAM cache
2. If you are not using System 7, reboot under Finder (not MultiFinder) and attempt the plot again.
3. Reduce the number of different fonts used in your document. Geneva plots the quickest, and uses the least amount of RAM. Large bitmapped fonts are plotted pixel by pixel: they take an enormous amount of time and memory to plot, and can shorten the life of plotter pens.
4. Reduce the number of colors or pen widths being used.
5. If possible use a smaller paper size.
6. If the document is more than one page, plot one page at a time.
7. Simplify the bitmapped patterns in the document. Complex patterns require more memory to plot.
8. Check the document for damage: save the file as PICT, then open the PICT file and attempt to plot. Or, copy all the objects in a drawing, then paste the objects into a new file.
