MacDraw II: Opening Scanned PICT Files

What is the largest PICT file MacDraw II can open?

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
The largest scanned PICT file MacDraw II can open depends upon several factors:

1. The complexity of the graphic image that you've scanned (not necessarily the size of the file).
2. The method you use to scan (i.e.., Line Art, Half Tone, Gray Scale). A line art scan takes less memory to open than a gray scale or half tone scan.
3. The resolution you use to the scan the graphic image. A 300 DPI scanned images require more memory than an image scanned at 150 or 72 DPI.
4. Not all scanner software use the same PICT file format. o, some scanned images are saved as larger files than others.
5. Complex scanned images may require more memory than has been installed in your Macintosh.

If you are having difficulties opening a PICT file in MacDraw II:

1. Scan the image at lower resolution, like 72 or 150 DPI.
2. Using the scanner software, select only the area you need scanned, rather than scanning the entire document.
3. Scan the image in sections.

Note: Scanned images can be reduced in MacDraw II. Turn on Show Size and resize the image. Show Size will display the horizontal and vertical resolution in dots per inch (DPI).

For example, with this feature you can precisely resize (reduce) a 72 DPI image to a 144 or 300 DPI object. (This feature is not documented in the manual.)
