Under Systems 5.x, 6.x
To create a PostScript file from MacDraw II (and most other Macintosh applications) with earlier versions of the LaserWriter driver (6.0.2 and before), do the following:
- Turn off Print Monitor or any other print spoolers.
- Select Print from the File menu.
- Click OK in the print dialog, then immediately press and hold the command and F keys.
- Continue holding down the Command and F keys until you see the "Creating PostScript File" message.
- In the Finder you will see a file named "PostScript0". This is the PostScript file.
Notes:- Command-K will also create a PostScript file. This file includes the Laser Prep routines and will be much larger.
- If you're using TOPS and are unsuccessful at creating a postscript file, try disabling TOPS. To disable TOPS, reboot and hold down the mouse after the happy Mac appears on startup.
- Creating of a PostScript file within MacDraw II or any other Claris application using this technique is a feature of the LaserWriter driver. It has nothing to do with the application and is NOT guaranteed to work.
Under System 7.x
The easiest way to create a Postscript file from MacDraw II is to acquire LaserWriter driver version 6.1 or 7.0. These versions offer the option to "print" to a Postscript file on disk from the print dialog box.
However, these versions of the LaserWriter do not give the user the choice of a "Command-K" file or a "Option-f" file. It creates a "Command-K" file only.
This Postscript file has additional information in it which is different from the previous files. Truetype font information will be included along with the LaserPrep routines found in earlier versions.
Also, Apple has released a utility that will strip out the additional information from the 7.0 files to make them equivalent to the previous versions. This file has been placed on Genie and other bulletin boards.
