Claris CAD: Terms Defined

These terms relate the technique used to display an object.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

Bird's Eye: A bird's eye view is a perspective drawing taken from above the center, looking down.

Elevation: If you have an elevation of a wall, it would be drawn as though you were standing directly in front of the center of the wall.

Exploded View: An exploded view is a drawing that shows all of the components of an assembly and how they fit together. Anyone who has assembled a model car or airplane has worked with exploded view drawings.

Orthogonal: An orthographic projection is a drawing that shows in a single drawing, what the object or assembly would look like from three angles (usually front, side and top) by the use of outlines, dashed lines and projection lines.

Perspective: In a perspective view, you would view the wall at an angle, with lines showing the depth of the wall and indicating a vanishing point.

Projection Lines: Projection lines are dashed lines, ending in arrows, which indicate the part of the projected view as it relates to the ÔrealÕ view of the object.
