When an object is deleted, the memory used by the deleted object is not immediately freed up for other objects or operations. MacDraw Pro must keep the object in memory to allow an Undo of the deletion. This can be a problem, for example, if you delete a large bitmap or EPSF object from your document, then immediately attempt to cut/copy other objects while there is very little unused memory. (A large bitmap or EPSF object can use over a megabyte of memory in a MacDraw document). If this occurs, you will see a warning box that says, "Sorry cannot cut or copy current selection to the clipboard." This can also impair other memory-intensive operations, such as importing a large color palette.
To free up the memory used by the deleted object, perform another Undoable action.
1- Drawing a new object
2- Resizing, moving or otherwise altering an existing object.
3- Deleting another object. The deletion of that object will no longer be Undoable, so MacDraw can then free up that memory for other purposes.
Tip : An easy Undoable operation to perform: before selecting the cut/copy command, press one of the arrow keys on the keyboard. For example, pressing the Down Arrow key moves the selected object one pixel or one grid point downward. Then select the cut/copy command. Or, press the Down Arrow, then the Up Arrow key. This moves the object, then moves it again to its original spot. Then copy the selected object.
If you still can't cut/copy the object, see the entry titled "Sorry cannot cut or copy current selection to the clipboard."
