When drawing with the freehand tool, if you draw outside the window, the window will not scroll.
This is different than other drawing tools, which will autoscroll the window when drawing. However, if you draw outside the window boundary, the freehand object will be drawn on the drawing. You can manually scroll the window after drawing to see the effects of this drawing. MacDraw II functions the same way when drawing freehand objects.
To replicate this:
1) Set the drawing window so that it doesn't go to the right edge of the screen.
2) Draw with the freehand tool, dragging past the right side of the document window.
3) Scroll the window to the right. You will see that the freehand tool drew as if the window had extended farther to the right, although the window didn't scroll to make that area of the drawing visible.
