MacDraw Pro: Gradients in PICT Files Viewed With Other Applications

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
If you create a document with gradients, save as a PICT file, then open the PICT file in other graphic programs, the gradients may not be correct. This is due to the other program's inability to read our gradient information in the PICT file, and not due to any problems in MacDraw Pro. The following information outlines the performance of other programs reading gradients from MacDraw Pro PICT files.

Studio 8: Gradients look banded, with very coarse transitions between gradients. Studio 8 is mapping the colors in our gradients to match the colors in its own color palette.

Studio 32: Gradients look very good, with very smooth color transition. No problems observed.

SuperPaint: Gradients appear as solid black fill, with no color transition at all.

PixelPaint Pro: Gradients look very good, with very smooth color transition. No problems observed.

Freehand 2.0: Gradients appear with smooth color transition. However, the gradient spills out way beyond the border of the object, especially with bezigons.
