MacDraw Pro: Certain Print Options Are Grayed Out

When printing to QuickDraw printers, certain printing options such as reduced printing and print quality options may be grayed out.
This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
To make those print quality options available in MacDraw Pro, select the Preferences command. Select the Printing preferences icon. Deselect (uncheck) the option for "Maximum Resolution." You will now have all printing options selectable.

In order to use the maximum printing resolution (instead of the default resolution, which may be lower) of the printer, certain options have to be disabled.

These options include reduced printing, and may also include print quality options, such as the Faster mode on the ImageWriter. MacDraw Pro is preset to use the Maximum Resolution setting, as the highest possible print quality is usually more reliable for accurate printouts. This means that the user must turn off the Maximum Resolution option to gain access to the disabled printer options.

ClarisDraw is not able to print using the Faster mode on the ImageWriter. "Draft" printing is available, but this is for text only--and even then, the result will be so poor as to be almost useless. The only workaround is to save as PICT and open the document in an application that supports both PICT and printing in "Faster" mode to an ImageWriter (such as ClarisWorks or MacDraw II)
