The following are steps to correct this:
* Turn off any INITs or Extensions (System 6: Drag the System and Finder to the Desktop; restart the computer; drag the System and Finder back into the System Folder. System 7: hold down the Shift key while restarting the computer). Launch MacDraw Pro to see if it is fixed.
* Check the root level of the hard disk (the desktop and the hard disk window) for a file called Claris XTND System. Also check the System Folder. If found in either location, trash it, then re-launch MacDraw Pro. (This could be an older version of the file from FileMaker Pro 1.0. The only copy of this file should be in the Claris folder, which is the version installed by MacDraw Pro).
* If the difficulty persists, reinstall the System Software and the MacDraw Pro application. Turn off all INITs before reinstalling MacDraw Pro.
* If the difficulty persists, rebuild the desktop (hold down the command and option keys while restarting the computer), then run Disk First Aid or Norton Disk Doctor. Disk First Aid is included on your System disks. Instructions are included in your computer's owners manual.
* If the difficulty persists, it could be a corrupted XTND preferences file. Delete XTND Translator List and Claris XTND Preferences, which reside in the Preferences folder in System 7.
* The software used to format the hard disk may be incompatible with System 7 and/or MacDraw Pro. Obtain a current version of this formatting software. For non-Apple brand drives, contact your dealer or hard drive vendor for the latest version of their formatting sofware. When obtained, you do NOT need to reformat the hard disk. Instead, you'll need to update the SCSI driver file on the hard drive. The way to do this varies from program to program, so you'll need to refer to instructions for your software on how to do this. (Usually there is a button or pull-down command worded something like "Update" or "Install Driver" or "Update SCSI driver").
One known incompatibility seems to be hard drives formatted with older versions of the Rodime hard drive formatting software. To fix this, launch a current version of the Rodime utilities software. There are two options for installing the SCSI driver file. Choose the one labeled something like "install standard driver," then install / update the driver file. MacDraw Pro should open successfully.
