Claris CAD: Scanned or Bitmapped Pictures

I would like to scan images and paste them into Claris CAD. With these images in Claris CAD, I would like to:

1. Accurately dimension them (Claris CAD does not have a way to find specific points on bitmap)
2. Edit portions of them (Claris CAD does not have paint tools).
3. Delete portions of them (Claris CAD does not have paint tools).
4. Calculate out the amount of area being used by a specific portion of the bitmap (Claris CAD cannot define the different areas in bitmap).
5. Translate this bitmap to other platforms (The DXF & IGES formats do not support bitmaps).

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

The above items are virtually impractical to do in Claris CAD, unless the person is willing to trace over these objects or use something like "Streamline by Adobe" to trace over simple line drawings.

You can dimension the distance between points on a bitmap if you use the point tool to place points on the bitmap and then dimension between the points.

Why do we allow customers to paste in Bitmaps into Claris CAD? You still can do a few things, for example rotate them, scale them and print them. Bitmaps are a Macintosh Graphics standard so for Claris CAD not to allow customers to do these things would not be a good decision on our part.

(A note on Streamline. A new version of "Adobe's Streamline" can save out DXF files, if the customer has a simple line drawing, for example, a scan of a house. They can trace it in Streamline. Save it as DXF. Translate it through CGT and work with it in Claris CAD.)
