MacDraw Pro: Text Not Printing to Personal LaserWriter LS

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
Note: this issue is only occasionally reproduceable. It does not appear to be strictly related to Truetype usage or memory levels.

When printing from MacDraw Pro 1.0v1 to a Personal LaserWriter LS, horizontal (non-rotated) text will only print on page 1. Horizontal text will NOT print on any succeeding pages. This issue has been reproduced when printing from a Macintosh LC / 6.0.7 / TrueType. This issue did not occur when printing from a Macintosh IIci with ATM.

Workaround:
1) Select all the text objects. (Click the text tool, press command-A; the text objects should be ungrouped)
2) Click the corner-center control to set it to the corner position. (See page 1-7 of the MacDraw Pro User's Guide to see where the corner-center control is at.
3) Rotate the text objects 180 degrees. (Select the Rotate command. While holding the Shift key, rotate the text 180 degrees, so its upside down. Each text object will rotate around its center.).
4) Flip Horizontal, then Flip Vertical. The text will appear reoriented to its original position. It will now print correctly.

Here are some other characteristics of the issue:
- Rotated text will print correctly
- The issue occurs with either 1.0 or 1.1 of the LS driver
- Printing back-to-front is not a workaround. Horizontal text only prints if its on the page in the upper-left corner of the drawing
- Changing the color has no effect
- Print monitor settings have no effect
