ClarisWorks: How the Field Format Command Works

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
In versions of ClarisWorks through 3.0, the Field Format command was not implemented for text fields or calculations that are formatted to return a text result. Because of this, the Field Format command is not available when a text field is selected.

Text fields are formatted by selecting one or more fields and choosing the desired Font, Size, Style, Text Color, Alignment, and Spacing attributes from the Format menu.

In ClarisWorks 4.0, the Field Format command is available regardless of the field type selected. The options in the dialog box will change, depending on the field type, to show text, number, date, or time formatting options. As in all previous versions of ClarisWorks, to change the text formatting attributes (font, size, etc.) of non-text fields, you must choose the desired options from the Format menu. In all cases, line spacing and text alignment can only be changed using the Format menu.
