ClarisWorks: PowerBook 140 & 170 Installation Issues

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
The PowerBook 140 & 170 cannot read part of the ClarisWorks HyperTour Disk that ships with 1.0v1. As a result, an Easy Install on these machines will result in a "failed" installation and clicking on "Quit" may cause the Installer to crash.

Since the HyperTour is the disk with the largerst single file, it failed more often due to size and how it was duplicated. When the issue was found, the duplication process was altered to avoid disk fragmentation and the Easy Install process does not include the HyperTour by default.

Separately, several vendors have reported that the PowerBook can't read certain floppy disks and this is caused by emissons from the screen. However, you should be able to install ClarisWorks by:

1. Turning the brightness control down or off and repeating installation.
2. Using a non-PowerBook Macintosh to copy the HyperTour disk onto another disk and installing from the copy.
3. Using Custom Install, install the HyperTour.
