ClarisWorks: Opening Text Files in Spreadsheet or Database

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
Question: When I try to open an existing text file (Tab separated, DIF, SYLK) as a DATABASE using ClarisWorks import options open dialog box, I get only a Define fields box in a new database with only one field.

Question: When I try to open an existing text file (Tab separated, DIF, SYLK) as a SPREADSHEET using ClarisWorks import options open dialog box, I get an error message "Some data was outside of the document's range and could not be imported". When I click "OK" I get a new blank spreadsheet.

Probable cause of both issues: If you are using ClarisWorks application version 1.0v2, check the version of the ClarisWorks Translators file in the Claris folder within your System folder. If the ClarisWorks Translators version is 1.0v1, update it to 1.0v2. Restarting the Macintosh is not necessary. For ClarisWorks version 1.0v1, v2 and v3, the application version number must match the ClarisWorks Translators file version number for translations to work.

NOTE: ClarisWorks 2.0 does not require a ClarisWorks Translators file.
