Welcome. This addendum is provided to communicate information and work-arounds not available in printed documentation. You can also find important tips in the MacDraw Pro User's Guide Troubleshooting section (Appendix A).
INSTALLATION NOTES
Please remember to remove all virus checking software from your system before installing MacDraw Pro software, and then to re-install your virus checking software afterward.
The installation process will leave some temporary files on your hard disk. These files are automatically removed by your Macintosh when you restart (if you need to recover disk space after installation, Restart your Macintosh).
QuickTime EXTENSION
Apple's QuickTime extension is needed if you wish to use QuickTime movies with MacDraw Pro. Contact Apple at 800-947-5176 for information on how to get a copy of the "QuickTime System Extension ". Apple also has available a "QuickTime Starter Kit" which contains more than just the system extension. For information on the starter kit contact Apple Customer Relations at 800-766-2333.
SLIDE SHOW STATIONERY FILES
Included in the Slide Show Stationery folder, located within the Sample Files folder, are four stationery files. These files have drawing sizes that correspond to standard monitor sizes. If desired, these files may be used so that the content of a slide presentation is not scaled when Slide Show is turned on. Objects will appear as they do at a 100% zoom level and QuickTime movies will play with optimum performance.
If you need to generate a drawing size for a monitor size that was not provided or you are experiencing some scaling effects for your particular monitor, look up the picture dimensions in the reference manual that came with your monitor. Use these dimensions to set the width and height items in MacDraw Pro Drawing size dialog box.
A/UX 3.0 PUBLISHING
Due to certain anomalies, MacDraw Pro requires that an unsaved document must be saved before Publishing any information when running under A/UX 3.0. The Create Publisher menu item in the Publishing menu will be gray until the document is saved.
PRINTING TWO COLOR PATTERNS
MacDraw Pro 1.5 has included the ability to define and use patterns that have foreground and background colors. These patterns print correctly to full color QuickDraw printers. Due to current postscript driver limitations, these patterns will not print correctly when directly printing using the current Apple LaserWriter drivers. However, the EPSF file filter, included with MacDraw Pro, generates the necessary information to print these two-color patterns. If you need to print two-color patterns to a postscript printer, first save the file as an EPSF file. Place the saved file in a new document and print. The two-color patterns will print correctly.
FONT SUBSTITUTION
MacDraw Pro uses processes to place text as accurately as possible when printing. These processes are not compatible with Font Substitution in the LaserWriter Driver.
To ensure proper printing of high-resolution fonts, please use Helvetica, Times, and Courier instead of Geneva, New York, and Monaco.
MACDRAW II IMPORT
Improved text placement in MacDraw Pro may cause line breaks to change slightly within text blocks in imported MacDraw II files. This is due to letter spacing contracting (or in some cases expanding) slightly. Manually adjusting the letter spacing of words on a line above a new line break will return the line break to its original position.
To increase (decrease) character spacing for a word:
1. Select the text tool, and click on the text block.
2. Double-click the word to select it.
3. Hold down the option key and press the right (left) arrow key.
StyleWriter INFORMATION
The Apple StyleWriter printer uses the memory in your Macintosh to rotate blocks of text. Depending on available memory, large blocks of rotated text may not print. Try the following steps:
1. Break the text block into smaller parts, and delete extra carriage returns. The total amount of memory required to print rotated text varies in direct proportion to the total size of the text block, so smaller blocks need less memory.
2. Increase available memory. Instructions on increasing available memory may be found in Appendix A of the MacDraw Pro User's Guide.
ADOBE TYPE REUNION INFORMATION
Adobe Type Reunion substantially reduces the performance of MacDraw Pro for many interactive operations (such as selecting objects). You may experience significant performance gains by removing Type Reunion from your system folder and restarting your system before using MacDraw Pro. Additionally, an incompatibility exists with Type Reunion when saving files in MacDraw II format which can result in system instability. Please do not Save As MacDraw II with Type Reunion installed.
COMPLEX POLYGON OBJECTS
Complex polygon, bezigon, and freehand objects may not print in some cases. Please see the User's Guide Troubleshooting section for information on approximate point guidelines, and tips on printing. Additionally, gradient fills may not appear in complex polygon objects.
Simplifying complex polygons will result in faster printing and faster screen display. To simplify these objects, use the Reshape command, select the object, and remove some points. Also, try to reduce points of overlap on an object (where lines on the object cross).
