ClarisWorks: Printing Color Bit-maps to the ImageWriter

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
ClarisWorks prints color bitmaps to an ImageWriter in black and white when using Apple's ImageWriter driver. This could happen when inserting a color bitmap into the graphics environment of ClarisWorks 1.0 or when creating bit-map art from scratch with the ClarisWorks 2.0 (or 3.0) painting tools.

NOTE: Color bit-maps print out fine to other color printers, including color DeskWriters.

Solution for ImageWriter Owners:
Printing to an ImageWriter using the MacPalette II driver by MicroSpot will allow ClarisWorks to print color bitmaps in color. The driver supports dithering, so the print quality is pretty good for an ImageWriter.

MacPalette II requires a Mac with color ROMs (not the Mac Classic), and is much cheaper than buying a better color printer.

This product is not officially tested by Claris, but initial printouts indicate no problems.

NOTE: The drawing module in ClarisWorks can print up to 8 colors with the ImageWriter driver but will be enhanced by adding MacPalette. Mac Palette can approximate up to 250,000 colors using dithering.
